In Spring 2020 I founded Basketclub together with designer Jamie Wolfond. On a monthly basis, an international group of makers from diverse backgrounds weave a basket based on an emoji. The results are later shared on our Instagram:@basketclub.
As the global pandemic hit I spent much of my time on on experimental weaving, imagining contemporary forms of basketry. On Instagram, I connected with Jamie Wolfond about basketry. Encouraged by this common ground which we knew affected many more creatives, we founded Basketclub as an Instagram-based initiative.
The platform plays by a simple set of rules: Each member of a selected, international group of designers (Basketeers) weaves a new “basket” every month. A brief, represented by an emoji dictates the theme of the baskets. At the end of the month, photographs of the finished baskets are shared on the Instagram account @basketclub.
Within the framework of Basketclub, possible futures for an ancient craft are speculated upon by contemporary designers and artists. The results are transmitted digitally as well as, later on, through group exhibitions. Basketclub was also lucky to collaborate with Maharam, HAY, DEDON and Karimoku.

As Basketclub expanded, we launched our own website www.basketclub.world and published a book.
